![]() ![]() The most disappointing thing about the V-MODA BoomPro was the packaging. That seemed to be remarkably reasonable for a simple mic upgrade. When I finally checked the MSRP (which I did well after I finished my testing of the BoomPro), I was shocked that it was only $30. I expected the BoomPro to be pricy as well. I knew that they had some more reasonable offerings but that most of their headphones were pretty pricy. I've had little experience with the company but other Audioholics on staff have and speak highly of them. When V-MODA announced the BoomPro, I wasn't sure what to think. ![]() While you can get rid of this noise with filters, it often is to the extreme detriment of the voice quality. They come from a variety of sources but two of the most common are the fans in your computer and the unmistakable sound of a hard drive spinning. Eventually, you'll notice some pretty nasty background noises. If you want to know what you are missing, try using the mic included in your laptop and record yourself for a while. When you are using Skype and other such programs, they have built-in mechanisms to combat extraneous noise. ![]() God help us if they used the one built into their laptop. Typically there will be a ton of distortion and an overall "robotic" sound to their voice.Īnd that is only if they use an external mic. Most of these are headset mics and they universally sound pretty bad. In the past, I've had guest hosts on the show (and other interviewees) that have used other mics. We have high quality Audio-Technica mics that we've been using for years. Readers of Audioholics know that I host the AV Rant podcast. Are you a lover of online games? Do you make a lot of Skype or other over-the-Internet calls? Do you use a headset when making calls on your smartphone? Do you record your voice for any reason (podcasting comes to mind but that is not the only example)? If you are ever thinking of using a mic with a computer or a gaming system, you should care about your microphone. There are a lot of reasons you might want to upgrade the microphone in your headset. ![]()
